Not only are we committed to complying with the UN Human Rights and the ILO convention. We have a firm and common remuneration structure and we carry out Human Resources reviews to make sure that corporate policies and sound practices are followed in each company.

Over the years, a special focus has been on bringing different people together in organisations and in networks. Bringing people across borders has been the key to securing mutual respect across borders and within the different entities. Most employees of Jotun are exposed to colleagues from other countries and with different cultural backgrounds on a daily basis, based on our formal and informal structure.  

The internationalisation of employees is done in different ways.

Jotun has a long tradition of sending people on international assignments. This is seen as a long-term investment, although it requires more resources than hiring local employees. Informal networks are developed which gather people from different nationalities and business divisions.Furthermore, there are a number of formal regional and functional networks with regular meetings. These are all instruments that enable increased knowledge-sharing and social capital within the company. 

Jotun is a workplace in which discrimination because of gender, religion or reduced operability is not acceptable.

The company cooperates with institutions to facilitate job training for people who for different reasons fall outside normal working life. Climate surveys are also held in order to detect harassment of any kind. In addition, adjustments of working conditions and tasks are carried out on a continuous basis to make sure that special, individual needs are met.

Development of employees is of high importance.

Jotun has extensive development programmes (Jotun Academies) at all levels to make sure that people are trained to do their job and to develop people at all levels.

Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ) at the working place.

Jotun takes HSEQ seriously and makes sure that training programmes in local languages take place. Each site has its own HSEQ coordinator that works closely with Group HSEQ with corrective and preventive actions. Group HSEQ undertakes regular HSEQ audits, which in turn is reported to Group Management and the Board of Directors to ensure commitment from the very top of the organisation.
